One Organ At A Time

So far cancer has taken Larry's gall bladder, his pancreas, and last night we found out that it will likely take his spleen. This is such a brutal, relentless, and cruel disease.

Larry had been in pretty significant pain for several days, but yesterday it radiated to his shoulder and became unbearable even after putting on a pain patch. We went to the Logan ER where they did a CT scan and we learned that the cancer in his pancreas and liver had significantly grown and the cancer in his pancreas was cutting off the blood supply to his spleen which was causing the pain in his abdomen and shoulder pain. We were told that the pain would go away in 5-7 days once the spleen had died. I also learned that you can live without a spleen, even though it is an important part of your immune system and is a blood storage tank.

We were told that there was nothing else they could do and were sent home with pain killers. It was also suggested that we consider going on hospice. We will continue to fight the cancer naturally and consider the possibility of going on hospice.

In closing I would like to share a couple of scriptures that I opened up to on two different nights when I was struggling. They helped to give me an eternal perspective and find peace.

"For verily I say unto you, blessed is he that keepeth my commandments, whether in life or in death; and he that is faithful in tribulation, the reward of the same is greater in the kingdom of heaven. Ye cannot behold with your natural eyes, for the present time, the design of your God concerning those things which shall come hereafter, and the glory which shall follow after much tribulation." (D&C 58:2-3)

"Verily I say unto you my friends, fear not, let your hearts be comforted; yea, rejoice evermore, and in everything give thanks; Waiting patiently on the Lord, for your prayers have entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth, and are recorded with this seal and testament--the Lord hath sworn and decreed that they shall be granted. Therefore, he giveth this promise unto you, with an immutable covenant that they shall be fulfilled; and all things wherewith you have been afflicted shall work together for your good, and to my name's glory, saith the Lord." (D&C 98: 1-3)
