
Ataxia-Telangiectasia, or A-T.
“ay-TACK-see-uh Teh-LAN-jick-TAY-sha”
A-T is caused when a child has two mutated ATM genes. This gene plays a central role in controlling the body's rate of cell growth and division as well as the body's ability to recognize damaged DNA strands and activate enzymes to repair the strands. The more we can learn about A-T and the #ATMgene, the more we can also learn about other diseases that share common characteristics. #WhatIsAT
